Muhsin Muhammad Declares His Support of Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte
8/13/2008
After signing with the Carolina Panthers during the off-season, fan favorite Muhsin Muhammad returns to the team that drafted him 12 years ago and throws his support behind the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte.
Muhammad, who spent the last three seasons with the Chicago Bears, never forgot the Queen City where he ran his M2 Foundation for Kids. Now the star wide receiver, in conjunction with his Foundation, will support the Charlotte’s Ronald McDonald House as a spokesperson.
"My family and I have decided to support the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte because I believe that this charity will help many families in need of financial and moral support," Muhammad said. "Our family has been directly affected by cancer, and we know how much this House will help families with sick children. We are honored and look forward to building great relationships, as well as a Ronald McDonald House here in Charlotte."
Currently, Charlotte is the only major city with a National Football League team that does not have a Ronald McDonald House.
The Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte is scheduled to open sometime in 2010 and will primarily serve children being treated at Levine Children’s Hospital and Presbyterian Healthcare’s Hemby Children’s Hospital. Situated on a donated lot in the 1600 Block of East Morehead Street, the House will feature approximately 35,000 square feet of living space complete with 20 to 30 bedrooms (one family per bedroom/suite), providing more than 10,000 nights of stay each year for needy families. It is also scheduled to have a family kitchen, great room, learning center, playground and sitting porch. Construction will hopefully begin in November 2008.
"We’ve received support from the community on all levels," said Tim Verhagen, Board President of the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte. "To receive the support from Mr. Muhammad is such a boost to the House. Mr. Muhammad is a person who believes in family and community. With his support, great things are about to happen. Everyone at the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte welcomes ‘Moose’ back to the Panthers and to Charlotte. We hope he has a fantastic season, and wish him and his family nothing but the best of luck."
Muhsin Muhammad’s Highlights with the Carolina Panthers

He’s tied for first with 44 receiving touchdowns and tied for second with 44 total touchdowns. He ranks second with 113 starts and fourth with 115 games played. He’s third on the Panthers with 268 points scored. Our Mission: To provide a home away from home for families of seriously ill children where comfort, support and education are provided to promote the well being of all.
Our Vision: To foster strong relationships with community partners as a way to assist creating this caring environment for families when illness strikes a child.
Our History: Starting with the first House in 1974 in Philadelphia, PA, this concept of caring for families when they needed it most appealed to caring individuals far and wide. By 1979, 10 more Ronald McDonald Houses (RMH) had opened. Today, there are 276 Ronald McDonald Houses in 30 countries, providing more than 10,000 bedrooms where weary moms, dads, brothers, sister, and other loved ones can lay their heads.
Our Business: RMH are homes away from home for families whose children are being treated at nearby hospitals. Operating with a minimal number of paid staff, a House depends on an army of dedicated volunteers. Clients pay a minimal amount and a House’s annual operating fund is covered by a fund-raising plan that incorporates annual donors, stake-holders contributions and events.
